Kefir To Help You Sleep!

Kefir is similar to yogurt, but much better in that it has many more different microbes than yogurt. Your gut microbes make Serotonin and Melatonin, which are feel good hormones. When we have more of this, we have less stress and can lead to better sleep!

What Is Going On With Our Parks??

I love getting to the parks, taking in nature, and getting some much-needed exercise and stress reduction. It was tough back in the days of “the great pandemic” when some parks and trails were closed, as the science was settled that exercise wasn’t important to our health and immune system. This year has shown a very strange happening at many parks in the St. Louis area. It begs the question…is it a worker shortage or are they just letting the parks go? Either way, it is a shame.

I get to Forest Park a couple times a week and this year the grass, which is normally kept at a manageable height, is completely out of control (see pics). Maybe they are trying to give us the feel of what pioneer folks did as they made it across the country. Where it is partially cut, there are piles of grass that make it a challenge to get through. The shame with this park is there are so many attractions, such as The Muny, museums and golf courses that keeping it looking great was a priority. Now, I know it is early in the season, however when you get to parks on a regular basis and see how they are kept up, this stands out. And it isn’t just Forest Park as I have driven past a few to see the same thing. Could running a riding mower over grass be another casualty of the insane gas prices? Is manual labor below some who are out of work? The conspiracy theorist in me thinks there is more to this. And as we have learned, yesterdays conspiracies are tomorrows truths!

The one park I frequent that is kept immaculate, and for good reason, is Jefferson Barracks National Cemetary and Park. If it gets to the point where those who have served our country don’t have a beautiful place to rest, there will be trouble!!

So Many Health Benefits Of Coffee!

As a coffee lover, it is always great to find there are health benefits to drinking it! Although I drink more than DR ERIC BERG recommends, I do drink it black, so I have that going for me.

Coffee has the ability to lower the risk of dementia, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease as it protects against oxidation of the neurons.

Coffee can also prevent the risk of gall stones! Remember, the less you add to your coffee the better.

Fermented Carrots For Your Gut Health!

Fermented foods do wonders for the gut and there are many different foods you can ferment.

According to a study from Stanford University:

A diet rich in fermented foods increases the diversity of gut microorganisms. This helps reduce inflammation and strengthen the immune system.

Do You Have An Autoimmune Disease?

For a long time it has been know that low levels of Vitamin D are hand in hand with autoimmune conditions. New evidence from Dr. Coimbra, a Brazilian neurologist suggests that it may go even further. As he states:

“All, or nearly all, of patients with autoimmune disease have an increased resistance to the effects of Vitamin D”

Vitamin D acts as an immune regulator so having the right amount is so important!

What To Do When Feeling Depressed.

Getting past depression isn’t easy and doing some of the suggestions is a challenge. Sleep for example, is something that when we are depressed we don’t have control over. The two to start with are to eat healthy and exercise. When we put good food in our bodies we feel energized. That will lead to wanting to exercise. Start with what you have control over and see what happens!

Do You Want To Boost Your Metabolism?

Metabolism refers to the amount of calories you burn. Some have a “slow” metabolism and some have “fast”. However, you can change that by exercise and what you eat. Yes, there are lucky people who have a naturally fast metabolism. For most, that metabolism is directly related to how much exercise they do and what they eat.

Most of what we can to do boost the metabolism is fairly simple. From drinking more water (although not overdoing it) to getting the right amount of sleep, these activities help for many issues. Did you know that eating spicy food can help as well? While exercise is important, getting that high intensity workout weekly is essential. The key here is to incorporate one thing at a time, make it a habit, then move on to add another.

Love Those Blackberries!

Blackberries are amazing as they can be added to salads, smoothies or consumed fresh. AND they are packed with nutrition. Most don’t get enough fiber, for example, and that can lead to many stomach issues such as constipation and bloating. They are also rich in vitamin, which is essential for a well functioning immune system! Blackberries can help with brain health and we all need to be concerned with this! Send a truckload to DC to help our politicians!

There are so many benefits we get you should make it a priority to add BLACKBERRIES to your diet! Check out the video from BESTIE HERE!

You Are Weak In A Certain Area Because You Aren’t Working It!

This may seem like common sense but I have heard the same comment over and over through the years.

“I don’t do that exercise because I’m so weak, I can’t do much.”

My response is typically “that is exactly why you should be doing it!!”

A conversation with a client went in that direction. She said she didn’t like doing the bike because her legs start to burn 3 minutes into a workout. As we talked about changing the resistance, I explained that the burn happening so quickly is because her legs are weak. Her body is telling her what she needs to work!

It was always common to talk about low back issues and instructing to strengthen the abs to help with the back. While that is not bad advise, the other part of it would be to make sure to do some exercises to strengthen the low back. Again, your body will tell you what you need to do.

Countless times I have had conversations with women especially that they don’t do strength work because they are so weak and can lift much. While I understand not wanting to do something because you aren’t good at it, when it comes to strength work, you have to do it. No way around that!

Our bodies will tell us so much if we just listen to them.
