When it comes to habits that can affect our health in a positive or negative way, we typically think of food. While bad food can be harmful to our physical body, toxic people can be just as harmful to our mental well-being.
There are many signs that point to a toxic person in our lives and we need to be aware of them if we want a healthy relationship. And maybe we have to look at ourselves to see if we are toxic to others. Although, truly toxic people are, most likely, unaware of their behavior.
First, it is good to understand what it means to be toxic. According to Sarah Regan at MINDBODYGREEN.COM, it means
Toxic people are people who cause harm to another, often through emotional manipulation.
Some do it knowingly and look to blame you, control you, manipulate you and ultimately lead to you abandon yourself.
What are some of the traits of a toxic person you ask?
- Emotional manipulation
- Lack of accountability
- Lack of boundaries
- Energy draining
- Power dynamics
- Encourage codependency
- Incite drama
- Insincere apologies
One of the problems with toxic people is they can lead to you having toxic food in your diet. Toxic food, many times, is “feel good” food that is bad for our physical health. Eliminate the toxic people and watch other parts of your life get better. The key is knowing what to look for in toxic people so you don’t keep making the wrong choices.
