Getting enough water into our bodies is possibly the most important thing we can do for ourselves. Yes, we need food for fuel but the water is what gives us energy and lack of water can cause many problems. Our muscles are made up of approximately 70% water and our body as a whole is made up of 75% water. That should show you how important it is. It helps to lubricate the joints so if you are off to that run make sure you are hydrated.
I love talking with the older people who come to the Y and hear how they stay active. I remember chatting with a 90 year old man who exercised daily, drove his car and walked without a cane much less a walker. I figured he had some good advice that I need to take note. He told me to start my day with a big glass of water right when I wake up. When I asked why he said it will wake you up better than coffee and will keep you regular. Now I can tell you that I have had a glass of water every morning since he told me that and it does wake me up. I will keep to myself the other part!
Be sure to drink water throughout the day. I doesn’t do much good to drink it all at once and your body can only absorb so much at a time.
Until next time…
