This seems like a good time to bring back EATTHEDAMNSALAD.COM.
Although I would rather it not be coming off the assassination/murder of Charlie Kirk. I, like so many others, loved watching his videos of being on college campuses and engaging students to just have a conversation. Sometimes people agreed with him, some disagreed, all had the opportunity to discuss whatever they wanted.
Discussion/debate use to be a given in life. There is no time in history where people completely agreed, so a debate was had and different viewpoints were heard. In my lifetime, it seems a lot of this changed about 10 years ago. I don’t know exactly what changed but the rumblings started that if you thought a different way, not only were you wrong but you were an election denier, a science denier and so forth. I have been in the health and wellness industry for 25 plus years. There are so many fitness fads that have come and gone, along with fad diets. Science, or better yet, results, proved so many things wrong.
Covid is a great example. Covid hit we didn’t know what to do. However, 2 things that struck me were the gyms were closed and fast food restaurants remained open. Playgrounds were roped off, you had to walk in one direction on pathways because “science”. If you dared to question these things you were a science denier because the science was settled. In fact, that is how EATTHEDAMNSALAD came about. I saw on social media people would post to just “wear the damn mask” if anyone questioned the efficacy of wearing one. I never heard that we needed to start taking better care of ourselves. You couldn’t use the “I” word (ivermectin) and doctors who pushed for its use were silenced. There wasn’t a debate over this because “the science was settled”. Interesting how that has changed. Obviously the science changed!
The same can be said about questioning elections, who can compete in certain sports, is a vaccine effective, climate issues…you get the point. If there is anything Charlie Kirk is guilty of, it’s trying to get people to talk, discuss, argue, challenge and hear different points of view. I know I have learned so much in the health field just by listening to different viewpoints. Some I have agreed with and utilized, others I listened and moved on. If you have the facts to back up what you are saying, you shouldn’t be afraid to have that conversation, make your case and hear a different view…and not resort to violence.
Until next time…eatthedamnsalad
