The Message On Masks Is NOT Clear!

It’s a shame the mask message has become political and such a hot button topic but there is no turning back now. As “mask mandates” have been put forth across the country in businesses and schools, the message of are they effective, AND what else should we be doing, is so unclear that it almost seems purposeful to keep us fighting. One can only speculate as to why politicians what to keep the people at odds.

Three things I saw this past week made me think about why the “health experts” message is unclear, and really there are so many other things we should be doing to improve our health and immune system to naturally fight off viruses.

  1. As I came out of a grocery store, maskless mind you, I was stared down by a man with a mask under his chin, finishing his cigarette before he went in. Obviously he would then “protect” his health by putting a mask on. Need I explain the issue here?
  2. A young kid, probably 7-8th grade, maybe a freshman, stopping to get some breakfast before school. Again, he had a mask under his chin and was having a couple of donuts. Obviously the “health experts” didn’t get the message that sugar suppresses the immune system.
  3. On my morning walk where there may be 4-5 people walking around a lake. A man gets out of his car and puts on his mask to go for a walk. As I have said before, it should be made clear that if you are outside it is better to take in the fresh air whenever possible!

I don’t claim to know the backstory of everything that goes on so each of the above may have had good reasons for what they were doing. I just think that the message is so messed up that we won’t be able to get some reasonable agreement back. Although, I would make the argument that if you want to wear a mask, go ahead and do it. Let’s just back off of the forcing of masks! And if you aren’t concerned when the same politicians who are forcing these “mandates” are continuously observed in public breaking their own rules, or who walk to a photo op maskless, put a mask on for the pic, and immediately take the mask off, well that is your problem.

It is so challenging to have an open discussion about this because the information is not clear, and that is on the media. It is impossible to have just one side being the correct info and anything to the contrary is misinformation. And IMHO, the media has to be held accountable for a lot of this. You can say “wear the damn mask” all you want. My counter point is #EatTheDamnSalad!

Until next time…#eatthedamnsalad.
