Being in the fitness industry for almost 20 years, I have been able to talk with many older adults who have remained active, healthy and fit. I love learning from them in order to find out what they do to keep their quality of life. It seems like everyone today is about extreme exercise. While there is nothing wrong with this if that is what you like, it is refreshing to hear from many of the older population that they do the basics on a regular basis, while eating a healthy diet.
This is pretty much the key to exercise. Make our quality of life as great as possible! The way we do that is by regular exercise and eating plenty of fruits, vegetables and berries. Having a good balance also means that we know we can take a break and rest from working out and enjoy some foods that we avoid on a regular basis.
There are always going to be those people who will never let a cookie touch their lips and workout like an olympic athlete. More power to you! I’m one of those who tries to do what I should most of the time but can enjoy, without guilt, a few indulgences. I want to be riding my bike and swimming laps for a long time to come!
